Introduction to music came to him in the 70s when Andrew and his brother, Kevin entered a talent competition in the Holamarine Holiday camp in England whilst on holiday with their grandparents and parents.

Winning the competition gave them the incentive to improve their music skills and when back in their hometown of Derry, began vocal training with Tony Johnston School of Music, along with Dana, the Eurovision Song Contest winner.

Other competitions were to follow like TV programme,Tea Time With Tommy, the popular Hughie Greens Opportunity Knocks etc., and interest inThe Monk Brothers was becoming more apparent. In the early 80s the boys were smitten with sounds from the Eagles, Foreigner, Lionel Richie etc., but to play these songs required more musicians, so with help from their father Mike Monk, who was to become their Manager, their first band Mint Rock’ was formed.

The band played the local circuits in Ireland for a number of years and changed the line up of the band for the Showband circuit, then calling themselves The Stardust Showband, which toured England on a number of occasions and became noticed by Liam Hurley the brother of the well known singer in Ireland, Red Hurley. After the tragedy of the fire in the famous Stardust Ballroom, Dublin the management changed the band name to The Honeybunch, and released their first single in the 80s called Johnny Johnny which climbed to no. 5 in the Irish Charts.

The Band played their first TV show, UTVs Gloria Hunnyford Show on a number of occasions and later on, Gerry Ryans RTE Non Stop Pop programme from The Top Hat ballroom, Dunlaire.

The band were all holding full-time jobs as well as playing four or five nights a week and after a while the strain started to take its tole and many breakups in the band were apparent.

Andrew left the band in the 80s to better his career in the telecommunications industry in England. After six years he came back to Derry, where he met his, now wife Laura, the eldest daughter of the famous Johnny Quigley.

Some years passed and the influence of a musical family rekindled Andrew’s passion for music and with the latest revival of  Swing Music, with artists such as Robbie Williams and the new Michael Buble, Andrew took the opportunity of playing and singing again and joined Johnny Quigleys family band and was once again on the road!

Offers to play solo venues were coming in regularly, and Andrew now also plays a solo residency in the City Hotel, Derry every Friday fortnight, a programme of Easy Listening Music from artists like Michael Buble, Sinatra, to Dean Martin.

The launch of his first solo CD is due to be released in October, 2005 and radio play has already started with the Eamonn Gillespie slot on Ocean FM for Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal along with Derrys Maiden City FM.
